Tamil Nadu’s Cauvery delta has reported mixed kuruvai paddy yields amid heat and water scarcity. Cultivation declined sharply in several districts after delayed Mettur water release, while officials expect paddy procurement to fall as the cultivated area contracts
Mettur Dam’s water discharge was increased to 12,000 cusecs to meet rising irrigation demand across Tamil Nadu’s Cauvery delta. The higher release is expected to support farmers preparing for samba paddy cultivation, while authorities monitor reservoir storage, inflows and requirements
Tamil Nadu faces uncertainty over opening Mettur Dam on June 12 for kuruvai irrigation due to low storage and weak monsoon forecast. Current levels may irrigate only 2.5 lakh acres, prompting government aid plans and advice to shift toward pulses
