Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh on Monday forced the closure of 87 roads and washed away an iron bridge in Chamba, temporarily stranding 40-50 pilgrims. Locals built a wooden footbridge to rescue them as the Met office issued an orange alert
Seven people were killed and 11 injured after a private passenger bus rolled into a 100-feet deep gorge on the Tissa-Bairagarh route in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district. Police said the cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained.
Rescue operations for stranded Manimahesh pilgrims in Chamba began with IAF Chinook helicopters airlifting 135 devotees. Authorities, aided by HRTC buses and security forces, are ensuring safe return of thousands despite damaged roads and rains, prioritising convenience and safety of all pilgrims.
