Congress leader P. Chidambaram on Thursday said that remaining quarters of the fiscal may record "negative growth" and that for the first time since data was recorded methodically, the Indian economy has gone into a recession, as defined by economists.
"Unless the government puts money in the hands of the bottom half of the families and puts food on the plates of the poor, the economy will not revive smartly," he added.
