The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) in Manipur’s Churachandpur district has ended its indefinite shutdown following an agreement with local authorities after the death of a Kuki woman during a crossfire. Her funeral will be led by a philanthropic organisation
Activists of a tribal organisation enforced an indefinite shutdown in the district in protest against the killing of an elderly Kuki woman. Markets and business establishments remained closed, while vehicular movement was disrupted as Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) activists, including women, blocked several roads in the district
Police officials stated that the renewed violence broke out when a group of individuals attempted to remove a flag belonging to a Zomi armed group in Churachandpur town, a tribal-dominated area. Before security forces could arrive, clashes erupted between mobs and armed members of both the Zomi and Hmar tribes, leading to intense stone-pelting.
