The meeting of Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) upheld the decision of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC), and directed Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu every day, until October 15.
Earlier Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that the Union Jal Shakti Minister assured justice in the Cauvery water dispute during the meeting held in the national capital on Thursday.
He said DMK is an ally of the Congress party and asked how many times the state government spoke to the DMK-ruled Tamil Nadu government and its chief minister on this issue.
The meeting has gained significance, with the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) on Monday asking Karnataka to continue releasing 5,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for another 15 days.
In a related development, the Karnataka government said that it will request reconsideration of the order directing Karnataka to release water from Cauvery river to Tamil Nadu for 15 days.
