The Department of Telecommunications has directed telecom companies to strictly enforce the nine-SIM limit for individual subscribers from August 24. Customers will have to declare existing mobile connections, while the Digital Intelligence Platform will help telcos identify subscribers crossing the limit.

The initiative was in accordance with TRAI's revised regulations known as 'The Standards of Quality of Service of Access (Wireline and Wireless) and Broadband (Wireline and Wireless) Services Regulations, 2024 (6 of 2024)' that became effective from October 1, 2024, across the country for wireline and wireless services alike.
