Iran’s IRGC said two oil tankers caught fire after hitting naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz and claimed its forces downed a US drone. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei warned that Tehran would retaliate against any attack and rejected reports of a possible US strike on Pickaxe Mountain.
Iran and Oman have agreed on designated shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, though technical talks and a joint statement are still pending. The arrangement aims to ensure safe passage while preserving sovereignty, but reopening the strait to normal traffic depends on U.S. compliance with other conditions.
US President Donald Trump said talks with Iran are underway at Tehran’s request, backed by Gulf allies, calling it “a last chance” for Iran to sign a “good document.” He indicated discussions include reopening the Strait of Hormuz and eventual denuclearization. However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry denied any negotiations with Washington, saying talks are only with Oman.
Iran has said no agreement has yet been finalised with the United States and that exchanges between the two sides are continuing. Tehran said its current priority is ending the war, while discussions on uranium enrichment have not yet begun
