Paddy farmers in the erstwhile Karimnagar district are still awaiting a Rs 62.6 crore bonus for the Yasangi season, even as the Vanakalam harvest begins. Despite high demand for fine variety rice, the delay in bonus payments has left farmers uncertain about future government support.
Fine variety rice being distributed to white ration card holders through fair price shops is allegedly being smuggled to other places by illegal traders. Surprisingly, smuggling of the fine variety rice began the very next month after distribution of the rice began
Some rice millers in the district are allegedly trying to claim the bonus of Rs.500 per quintal being provided to farmers for fine variety rice by the State government.
