In April, Canada banned all direct flights to and from India when the second COVID-19 wave hit India.

The passengers were being tested upon arrival and anyone testing positive will be taken instead to a COVID hotel near Rome's main Leonardo da Vinci International Airport.

The decision was taken during a meeting of Cabinet's national security committee to consider the move to temporarily restrict flights from India.

All passengers arriving from India either directly or via another country will be banned from entering unless they have spent at least 14 days out of India.
