Uttarakhand police chief Ashok Kumar said a total of 430 BRO workers were at the road construction site when the avalanche occurred on Friday.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat on Saturday conducted an aerial survey of Sumna area of Joshimath Sector in Chamoli district.

Rescue operations are still in progress to search for the persons still trapped under snow or stranded at worksites since late evening.

"Out of 206 people missing in a flash flood, bodies of 71 people and 30 body parts have been recovered from Tapovan in Chamoli district," the state government said.

The death toll in the disaster was 32 as on Tuesday with six more bodies being recovered during the day.

ITBP teams were seen clearing the over 1,500-metre-long tunnel, which is executed till over 1,329 metres, using earthmovers driven by local workers.

Nearly 150 people were still feared missing and many killed and as many as 14 bodies have been recovered after the tragic incident that took place on Sunday morning.

ITBP, Indian Army, the SDRF and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) forces are engaged in the retrieval in the affected areas.
