Police on Friday foiled an attempt by Bharat Rashtra Vidyarthi Samithi (BRSV) activists to storm the Telangana Legislative Assembly in Hyderabad while pressing for student-related demands, including withdrawal of GO No. 97 and release of pending scholarships.
BRS Legislature Party deputy leader T Harish Rao was placed under house arrest in Hyderabad ahead of his visit to Warangal to support students protesting against G.O. 97, which proposes merging polytechnic education with Young India Skills University.
The Telangana Polytechnic JAC has temporarily suspended its protests against the merger of polytechnic colleges with Young India Skill University after the government formed a high-level committee. However, it warned of intensifying protests if GO No. 97 is not scrapped.
BRS leaders RS Praveen Kumar and Chirumalla Rakesh Kumar extended support to polytechnic students protesting against G.O. No. 97, alleging it would weaken polytechnic education and benefit private interests.
BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan demanded withdrawal of GO Ms. No. 97, alleging it undermines the polytechnic education system by paving the way for privatisation and merger with Young India Skill University.
BRSV staged a protest at Masab Tank Polytechnic College against the State government’s plan to merge polytechnic education with Young India Skill University. Police detained the protesters, while BRSV leaders alleged that G.O. No. 97 and the Shakti scheme would weaken polytechnic education.
