Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupted again, sending lava fountains up to 30 metres high, marking its 31st eruption since December. Summit crater activity poses no threat to homes, but draws visitors and livestream viewers, while holding cultural significance for Native Hawaiians.
The magnitude 8.1 quake struck the Kermadec Islands region. It forced thousands of people to evacuate in New Zealand but did not appear to pose a widespread threat to lives or major infrastructure.
