The study reported on the oldest genome to date from Cueva del Malalmuerzo in southern Spain, as well as the 7,000 to 5,000-year-old genomes of early farmers.
Shedding light on the character, Forte said: "He's an explorer and adventurer who has been on his own in the Lost World for so long, that he has a tentative relationship with reality at best."
According to the scientists, including those from the Swedish Museum of Natural History, this is the first time that DNA has been sequenced and authenticated from million-year-old specimens.
