BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan has accused the Congress government in Telangana of burdening the State with heavy liabilities through the Hyderabad Metro Rail takeover without securing promised refinancing.
Civil society organisations have alleged that the Telangana government’s decision to take over Hyderabad Metro Rail amounts to a bailout of L&T with public money rather than a genuine takeover. They demanded transparency in the agreement and raised concerns over the Rs 13,527 crore refinancing loan from IRFC.
The takeover of Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase I has triggered political debate, with doubts cast on the Telangana government’s assertion that it can independently execute Metro Phase II despite mounting financial pressures.
The tussle between Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy over the Rs 13,500‑crore IRFC loan for Hyderabad Metro escalated on Tuesday, with the CM penning an open letter accusing the Minister of blocking funds.
