The vice chairman of Samsung Electronics offered a public apology, leaving the Seoul Detention Centre in Uiwang, 25 kms south of Seoul, where his supporters, as well as protestors, had been waiting for the tycoon to come out.
After hours of discussion, the compliance committee concluded that Samsung Electronics should obey relevant laws and prevent any illicit activities when the company proceeds with Lee's case.
Lee was sentenced to two and a half year in prison by the Seoul High Court on Monday in a retrial of a bribery case involving former President Park Geun-hye.
The Seoul High Court gave Lee, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics Co., the prison term for bribing Park and her longtime friend, Choi Soon-sil, to win government support for a smooth transition of managerial power at the tech giant
“Even as the COVID-19 pandemic continues around the world, the reopening of key economies led to a significant increase in consumer demand,” Samsung said in a statement.
