An extensive investigation was launched after weapons and ammunition went missing from the Madras Regiment Headquarters Company in Bolarum. Telangana police, Army intelligence and other agencies scrutinised thousands of call records, CCTV footage and questioned dozens of personnel, but no espionage link was found so far.
A retired Army havildar was arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly stealing rifles, pistols and ammunition from the Madras Regiment’s Bolarum unit. Police said Upputholla Mallesh, dismissed from service in June, broke into the armoury and concealed the weapons near his home before being tracked down.
