Iterating the demand for withdrawal of the new farm laws, Banerjee wondered if the Centre can waive off NPAs running into crores of rupees then why is it hesitant to write-off farm loans.
"We have to respect and save our soil. No one can destroy Bengal. We will not allow Bengal to become Gujarat" said Mamata, during Bangla Sangeet Mela 2020 in Kolkata.

Rebutting Banerjee's comments, Owaisi tweeted, "So far you've only dealt with obedient Mir Jaffers & Sadiqs. You dont like Muslims who think & speak for themselves."
The TMC, after coming to power in 2011, has raised allocation for the education sector to Rs 37,069 crore from Rs 13,872 crore, State Education minister Partha Chatterjee said.
Asserting that the TMC will not allow the BJP-led Centre to sell government-owned coal mines, Banerjee also said "coal mafia are thriving under the saffron party".
Her statement came ahead of a crucial round of talks scheduled to be held between the Centre and representatives of the agitating farmers during the day.
