According to aceshowbiz.com, at the age of 12, the now 90-year-old experienced the end of World War Two. He was enlisted in the army at 18 and stationed in occupied Berlin, before being deployed to Korea for combat a year later.

"I'm very proud of being from the working class. We didn't have money when we were growing up, but we had plenty of love," the 88-year-old actor said.
