On November 8, Judicial Magistrate (First Class) S.D. Chakkar in Mulund dismissed the case as withdrawn, with the order made available on Monday. Advocate Santosh Dubey, an RSS supporter, had filed the complaint in October 2021, accusing Javed Akhtar of defamation under IPC sections 499 and 500.
It is "morally" incorrect to change partners as per one's whims and fancies, but there is no remedy under the penal law for the person facing rejection in a relationship, the court held.
"Pets are necessary for human beings to lead a healthy life as they fulfil the emotional deficit that occurred on account of broken relationships," the magistrate said.
