"In the trial, the vaccine will be given by intramuscular route in two doses at day 0 and day 28," it said.

The trials involved 25,800 subjects, the largest ever conducted in India, in partnership with the Indian Council of Medical Research, the Hyderabad-based company said in a statement.

The trials, which will commence in December, will be conducted on 250 patients across 20-25 centres in India.

Regulatory approval was being sought for the vaccine to progress to Phase 3 clinical trials before the end of the year.
