The CBI has taken over the 2019 Sandeshkhali post-poll violence case involving the killing of three BJP workers. An FIR has been filed against former TMC leader Sahajahan Sheikh, with the Calcutta HC citing repeated police failure to act against him.
Sandeshkhali in West Bengal's North 24-Parganas district has been tense with a large number of women in the locality accusing Trinamool Congress strongman Shajahan Sheikh and his supporters of "land-grab and sexually assaulting" them under coercion.
Ministers Partha Bhowmick, Sujit Bose and Birbaha Hansda went to Kalinagar village to speak to the residents about their grievances.
Sandeshkhali's Trinamool Congress MLA Sukumar Mahata also accompanied them.
The six member committee have been directed to visit the incident site, take stock of the situation, talk to the victims, and submit their report to BJP Party President JP Nadda.
