The holy city's iconic golden Dome of the Rock was dusted in snow. Main highways to Jerusalem and its major arteries were shut, and schools and businesses closed for the day as municipal snowplows worked to clear streets.

A new research, Glacio-hydrology of the Himalaya-Karakoram, released in the journal SCIENCE on Thursday, emphasises that total glacier melt and seasonality of flow are projected to increase until the 2050s

Fresh snowfall was reported from most parts of Kashmir, including Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, the officials said. 

The weather office has forecast improvement in overall weather conditions from Sunday onwards

The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg, in north Kashmir, recorded four inches of fresh snowfall during the night, while Pahalgam tourist resort in south Kashmir, recorded 10 cm of snow.
