PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday alleged she was placed under house arrest to prevent her from visiting Sopore to condole Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Bhat’s death. Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also claimed restrictions, calling the move “unbearable cruelty.”
Sources with Jammu and Kashmir Police told IANS that the exchange of fire took place when a team of security forces were busting a suspected terrorist hideout in the area. Security forces retaliated and opened fire after the terrorists fired a few shots
The Police added that one civilian also received injury during the encounter and he has been shifted to a hospital in Srinagar where his condition is said to be stable.
The security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Warpora area of Sopore on Thursday, following information about the presence of ultras.
"Two policemen and two civilians lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Sopore. Two other police personnel are injured. Lashkar-e-Taiba is behind this attack," said Kashmir IG
