Tamil film producers have announced a complete halt on new releases, shootings, and post-production from September 1, protesting the unilateral decision of Tamil Nadu theatre owners and distributors to mandate an eight-week gap before films can stream on OTT platforms.
The South Indian Film Producers Association (SIFPA) has strongly opposed unilateral OTT window mandates imposed by certain theatre associations in Tamil Nadu. The body has called for a joint stakeholder meeting in Hyderabad on May 10, 2026, to resolve the issue.
