West Bengal Uniform Civil Code (UCC) drafting committee member Tathagata Roy stated that the proposed law is as necessary as the Constitution itself, heavily criticizing the former Trinamool Congress administration for its alleged policy of minority appeasement
The West Bengal government has formed a high-level committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai to examine its draft Uniform Civil Code Bill. The panel will study the proposed law on marriage, divorce and inheritance before any decision is taken.
