Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that under the Ujjwala scheme, the beneficiaries will now pay Rs 600 for a 14.2 kg cylinder.

Ujjwala beneficiaries currently pay Rs 703 per 14.2 cylinders against the market price of Rs 903.

As per the existing modalities of Ujjawala 2.0, the first refill and stove will also be provided free of cost to beneficiaries.

The additional subsidy on LPG cylinders will come into effect immediately as a 'Raksha Bandhan' and 'Onam' gift, and will cost the exchequer Rs 7,680 crore, the minister added.

Modi stated that these initiatives align with government schemes like Jan Dhan, PM SvaNidhi, and Ujjwala.

Presenting the Union Budget for 2021-22, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said fuel supplies were kept running without interruption during COVID-19 lockdown.
