UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urged Nepal’s government and protesters to engage in peaceful dialogue after violent clashes over a social media ban left at least 19 dead. The UN called for protection of democratic rights and an impartial probe.
The UN General Assembly has established two new mechanisms — the Independent International Scientific Panel on AI and the Global Dialogue on AI Governance — to foster international cooperation, anticipate AI risks, and guide policymaking for the ethical use of artificial intelligence.

Speaking at the UN headquarters in New York, Guterres warned on Tuesday that the Middle East "is a powder keg with many parties holding the match." He noted that he had warned for months about the risk of the conflict spreading, adding that the situation in the occupied West Bank is "boiling over," with attacks in Lebanon threatening the entire region.
"The international community must urgently work together to prevent any actions that could push the Middle East over the edge, with devastating consequences for civilians," said UN chief's Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric
"The UN medical service recommended the cancellation pending contact tracing of the sick people, the president of the UN General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir of Turkey."
