Veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty fell ill during a roadshow in Baharampur, Murshidabad, while campaigning for BJP candidate Subrata Mitra. Party leaders attributed his sudden illness to extreme heat and fatigue. He was rushed away for rest and first aid, while the roadshow continued under Mitra’s leadership.
In the last polls in 2016, the Congress fought in alliance with the Left parties and secured 44 seats to emerge as the second largest party. However, half of its MLAs have since joined the Trinamool.
