Hyderabad: The festival season is here and it is time to plan your visit to the bank accordingly. A message doing rounds on social media says banks will be closed for 21 days in October which is not correct, bank officials clarified.

“In Telangana, there are ten closed holidays for banks in October. These include five Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays, and two major festivals besides Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. Transactions will continue to take place online and through mobile platforms,” said an SBI Official, dismissing the message being circulated in social media as false. There may be some minor festivals that are specific to select States, he said.

Banks are closed on second and fourth Saturdays (October 9 and 23). The month also has five Sundays – October 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31. In effect, the first, second, and fourth weekends of October are bank holidays in Telangana. Bathukamma, specific to Telangana, starts on October 6. Though it is a government holiday, it is not a bank holiday.

Following are the 10 days when banks in Telangana will be closed:

Oct 2 (Gandhi Jayanti),
Oct 3 (Sunday),
Oct 9/10 (second Saturday/Sunday),
Oct 15 (Dasera),
Oct 17 (Sunday),
Oct 19 (Milad-un-Nabi),
Oct 23/24 (fourth Saturday/Sunday),
Oct 31 (Sunday)
