Hyderabad: Intensifying the crackdown against sue of Chinese manja this Sankranti festive season, the Hyderabad police registered 103 cases and arrested 143 persons for selling Chinese manja. A total of 6,226 bobbins of Chinese manja worth Rs 1.24 crores were seized.
Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, VC Sajjanar, cautioned that the sale and use of Chinese manja was banned and attracts legal action. The Hyderabad police for last one month are keeping a watch on those who are involved in the trade of Chinese manja.
Both the special teams and local police are conducting raids on shops and godowns in the city to seize the manja. “We are keeping close watch on e-commerce platforms and courier services. The management should be careful and any violation will attract serious consequences,” said Sajjanar.
He said that cases are registered against Environment Protection Act and BNS Act. “In every case, a detailed investigation team is being formed to identify the source of the Chinese manja. We have information that the Chinese manja is being sourced by the traders from Gujarat, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh to the city,” said Sajjanar.
The highest number of Chinese manja bobbins were seized by Commissioner’s Task Force (south west) – 34, followed by Task Force (south zone) – 27 cases.
The Police Commissioner urged the people not to use the Chinese manja as it not only harms to environment but also is lethal for humans, birds and animals. He advised the people to use only traditional manjas available in plenty in the city.
The Hyderabad police asked the people to pass information about sale or use of Chinese manja on 9490616555 or Dial 100.
