1,200 caught drunk driving in Hyderabad

According to the police, 246 charge-sheets were filed against violators and they were produced before the court

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Traffic Police have caught 1,201 persons on charges of drunk driving during a series of special drives in January.

According to the police, 246 charge-sheets were filed against violators and they were produced before the court. Of them, the court while imposing a fine of Rs 25.1 lakh on 242 persons, sentenced four persons to imprisonment up to five days. All those sentenced for imprisonment will be shifted to the Central Prison on Chanchalguda and the remaining 955 violators too will be produced before court soon, officials said.

Officials said persons caught and convicted for drunk driving were likely to face difficulties in securing government jobs, passport and visa clearance. The violators will also be sent for counseling at the Traffic Training Institutions at Goshamahal and Begumpet.
