13-year-old raped, impregnated by relative in Mahabubabad district

Parents lodged a complaint with the Kuravi police who booked a case under POCSO Act against the accused,

Mahabubabad: In a shocking incident, a 13-year-old girl was raped repeatedly and impregnated by a close relative (father’s cousin) at a thanda in Kuravi mandal in the district. The incident came to light on Tuesday when the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Putta Kamalakar held counselling for the parents and presented the victim before Mandala Parashuramulu, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee (CWC), combined Warangal district, on Tuesday night.

Speaking to ‘Telangana Today’ on Wednesday, Parashuramulu said the girl was threatened and raped several times by a relative who resides next to their house in the thanda for the last six months when the parents of the victim were away from home. “The mother of the girl took her to a private hospital when she fell sick a couple of days back. But the doctor at the private hospital confirmed the pregnancy and asked the mother to take her to the government hospital. After learning this from the hospital authorities, the DCPO, Mahabubabad, met the parents and held counselling for them,” he said.

Following this, the parents lodged a complaint with the Kuravi police who booked a case under POCSO Act against the accused, Parashuramulu said, adding that the police will apprehend the accused. “I have directed the officials to shift the victim, a student of Class 8, to Swadhar Home in Warangal,” he added.
