Kothagudem: As many as 15 labourers were injured, three of them seriously, as a mini-goods vehicle plunged into Peddavagu stream at Betalapadu in Julurupadu mandal in the district on Tuesday.
The accident occurred when the vehicle’s tyre burst a result of which the driver of the vehicle lost control of it and it fell into the stream from a bridge across the stream. It was said that there were about 25 to 30 labourers in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
The labourers from Chipurudegum were going to Gundepudi to work there. On learning about the incident the local police rushed to the spot; shifted the injured to Government General Hospital in Kothagudem and vehicle was pulled out with the help of a tractor.
The locals complained that the bridge built over Peddavagu lacked railings on either side and accidents were occurring frequently at the bridge located on a curve on the road. They demanded the officials to construct railings on both sides of the bridge and the height of the bridge should be increased besides installing street lights.
