15-year-old boy drowns in abandoned quarry in Telangana’s Mancherial

Sadhula Thirupathi drowns while swimming in the quarry along with his friends; fearing police action, his friends flee the spot

Mancherial: A 15-year-old boy drowned in an abandoned quarry belonging to Mancherial Cement Company on the outskirts of Gadpur village in Hajipur mandal on Tuesday evening. His body was retrieved on Wednesday.

Police said Sadhula Thirupathi, son of Prasad from Jaffarnagar in Mancherial town, drowned while swimming in the quarry along with his friends around 5 pm. Fearing police action, his friends fled the spot.


Later, Prasad, who grew suspicious, questioned Thirupathi’s friends and visited the quarry, where he found his son’s slippers and clothes.

Upon being alerted, police rushed to the scene and retrieved the body with the help of expert divers.

Thirupathi had recently completed Class X and was about to join a junior college in Hyderabad. A case has been registered, and investigation is under way.
