Adilabad: A 15-year-old girl died, allegedly by suicide, after failing to secure admission into the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) in Basar on Monday.
According to the police, Munimala Shailaja from Dannur village in Boath mandal was found hanging at her uncle’s house in Attender’s Colony. She was reportedly distraught after missing out on a seat at the prestigious university, where she hoped to enrol in the six-year integrated engineering course.
Shailaja, who had scored 563 marks in her SSC exams, had pinned her hopes on pursuing higher education at RGUKT-Basar. Family members said she had been depressed over the outcome and was unable to cope with the disappointment.
Her mother, Venkatamma, lodged a complaint with the police. A case has been registered and an investigation is under way.
