Railways beat Andhra Pradesh to win 12th ball badminton title

Indian Railways defeated hosts Andhra Pradesh 35-23, 36-11 in the final to win the Senior National Ball Badminton Championship for a record 12th time. Railways also defeated Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the knockout stages to continue their title-winning streak.

Hyderabad: Indian Railways won the Senior National Ball Badminton Championship for a record 12th time after defeating hosts Andhra Pradesh 35-23, 36-11 in the final at Srikalahasti.

Earlier, Railways defeated Tamil Nadu 35-29, 37-35 in the semifinal and Puducherry 35-23, 35-20 in the quarterfinal.

In the league matches, Railways recorded a 35-19, 35-19 win over Maharashtra, defeated AIESCB 35-24, 35-19 and beat Karnataka 35-27, 35-23.

The Railways team, led by N Kalai Selvan, comprised Ch Vengala Rao, GP Vignesh, DV Ganesh, R Rajesh, HR Sanjay, P Karthik, VR Vithin Kumar, S Karthik and Karthikraj.

The team was coached by K Shashi Kumar of SCR, while Ramana Murthy, also of SCR, was the manager.

Interestingly, Shashi Kumar has been the Railways coach since the team began its winning streak of 12 consecutive championship titles.
