Karimnagar: Authorities have traced 16 persons who travelled from United Kingdom to Karimnagar recently. Alert district medical and health department officials traced them and collected their samples for the Corona test. Samples were sent to Hyderabad.

There was an element of tension in the town after news spread that people returned from United Kingdom which is witnessing a spate of corona positive cases, especially after the mutant virus began spreading. Karimnagar town was earlier in the news because of a team of Indonesian nationals who were visiting the district headquarters tested positive for the virus in March last. Now with the UK returnees in Karimnagar, tension escalated.

Speaking to Telangana Today, District Medical and Health Officer Dr Sujatha informed that they received information about UK returnees from the higher officials. They were tracked and samples were collected from 12 persons. Out of 12, ten belonged to Karimnagar and one each from Sircilla and Mancherial. The other remaining four returnees were from Peddpalli where they were also tracked and samples collected. One person had already returned b to the UK, she informed.

Though the recovery percentage in the district was high, she wanted the people to take precautionary measures by wearing masks and maintaining social distance to protect themselves from the virus. She advised the people to avoid attending functions as well as mass gatherings. District administration was well equipped to conduct any number of tests. Out of 2.75 tests conducted in the district so far, 22,000 persons were tested positive for the virus. A meager number of 235 persons died with corona.
