1,793 new COVID-19 cases, 18 more fatalities in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s COVID-19 tally rose to 2,77,887 on Friday with 1,793 people testing positive for the infection, while 18 more fatalities pushed the toll to 1,214, a health department official said.
Of the 1,793 new cases, 1,031 were reported from various quarantine centres, and the rest detected during contact tracing, the official said.
Khurda district, of which Bhubaneswar is a part, reported the maximum number of fresh cases at 208, followed by Cuttack at 160, Angul at 107 and Mayurbhanj at 104.
Taking to Twitter, the health department said, “Regret to inform the demise of eighteen #COVID19 positive patients while under treatment in hospitals.”
Three fresh fatalities each were registered in Angul, Gajapati and Khurda, two each in Jajpur and Mayurbhanj, and one each in Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Malkangiri, Nayagarh and Puri.
Odisha currently has 19,579 active cases, while 2,57,041 patients have recovered from the infection.
Fifty-three COVID-19 patients have died to comorbidities, the official said.
More than 42.40 lakh COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the coastal state thus far, including 40,733 on Thursday, he added.
