20 Maoists, one jawan killed in encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur

Kothagudem: Nearly 20 Maoists and a jawan of Bijapur DRG died in exchange of fire between the security personnel and Maoists on the borders of Bijapur and Dantewada districts in Chhattisgarh.
A joint team of security personnel launched an anti-Maoist campaign under Gangalur police station area on Thursday. Continuous exchange of fire took place between Maoists and security forces since early morning, Bijapur SP Jitendra Kumar Yadav told the media.
After the gunfire was stopped, police recovered bodies of twenty naxalites along with a huge quantity of automatic weapons and ammunition from the encounter site. The search operation has been going on in the area.
In another incident in Narayanpur district joint party of DRG and STF launched a search operation in Abujhmad area on Wednesday following information about the presence of top Maoist cadres.
Naxalites blasted an IED during wee hours. No one was seriously injured in the IED blast. A jawan and an officer were immediately taken out of the operation area for treatment as dust and dirt hit their eyes. After initial treatment, both of them were in better condition, police said.
