Sangareddy: As many as 236 persons including students, faculty and staff tested positive for Covid-19 at the Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) campus as on Tuesday.

According to sources at the campus, 186 students, 50 faculty and staff tested positive for Covid-19. Since the first case was reported on January 6, the number of Covid-19 cases continued to increase on the campus. On Tuesday, 13 persons tested positive for Covid-19. However, Of the 186 students, only 72 are in isolation at the isolation rooms, and the rest had recovered fully. While 100 of the recovered students were still in the camps, 14 of them left for their homes.

Since about 100 faculty members and 100 staff members live in the quarters with their families, the staff and faculty who tested positive were isolated at their own residencies. The institute has been making door delivery of all essential requirements in the isolation rooms and at the staff quarters who are in isolation.

In the wake of the Covid-19 cases spike, the institute has decided to conduct only online cases until January 30. While about 700 students left to their homes after the institute declared that they would conduct online cases, there were still 1,300 students on the campus.

According to a statement released by the management earlier, they had kept 211 isolation rooms ready, of which only 72 were occupied now. However, the management said that they were willing to increase the isolation rooms if the situation demands. Government Hospital Sangareddy and Primary Health Centre Kandi were collecting the samples of the symptomatic for rapid antigen tests and RT-PCR tests. Meanwhile, the management said they had 6 qualified doctors

and 9 staff nurses. They have inducted four staff nurses to provide round-the-clock services to positive patients. The management has also kept ready two ambulances which include on ICU on wheels. However, the sources said that a good number of faculty, staff, research scholars and students, who were living outside the campus, also tested positive for Covid-19 after coming in contact with the campus students when offline cases were conducted.
