Siddipet: Siddipet Police seized 2,384 quintals of paddy from a godown owned by MKR Seed Company on the outskirts of Srirampur village in Mulug Mandal on Friday. The company neither had bills regarding the paddy purchase nor did it have license to procure the paddy. The cost of the seized paddy is put at Rs 5.16 crore. The company had packed 584 quintals of paddy in bags under the name of Signet Seed Company. During the inquiry, they said the seed were to be sold to farmers.
Speaking to news reporters at Commissionerate in Siddipet on Friday, Commissioner of Police D Joel Davis said following the directions of Agriculture Ministry and Director General of Police they have constituted special teams to monitor the sales of seeds across Siddipet district besides examining the stocks at shops and godowns.
Acting on a tip-off, the Commissioner of Police said that ACP Gajwel P Narayana, Gajwel Rural Inspector Koteshwar Rao, Sub-inspector of Police Mulug Ranga Krishna, Assistant Director Agriculture Anil, Agriculture Officer Pragathi and along with their teams have raided on the godown. They have found that the MKR seeds have stored the seeds without proper bills and permissions.
Saying that they were conducting regular check ups at all the seed dealers’ shops across the district, Davis said that they have filed 5 cases against the seed sellers for selling them in violation of government guidelines. The Commissioner said that they will initiate stern action against such illegal businessmen.
In the Mulug case, Sub-Inspector Ranga Krishna filed a case against Suresh Sharma, owner of MKR Seed Company. The investigation is on.
