Hyderabad: A total of 24,240 youngsters between the age groups of 15 and 18 years across Telangana turned-up at Government and private Covid vaccination centres for getting administered with the first vaccine dose on Monday.

By evening, out of the total 18,41,000 eligible beneficiaries in the age group of 15 and 18 years, close to 1 percent i.e. 24,240 got the first dose of the Covid vaccine.

About 1,895 youngsters received the first dose in Hyderabad while 1,825 received the jab from Rangareddy district. A total of 2,408 youngsters at Nizamabad and 2,294 eligible beneficiaries from Yadadri Bhongir districts, which were the highest among all the 33 districts, received the first dose of Covid vaccine.

The Covid vaccine administration drive for 15 to 18 year olds will continue despite the gradual rise of Omicron driven Covid-19 wave in Telangana, health officials clarified. To avoid mass gatherings at the Covid Vaccination Centres, especially in areas under GHMC and other 12 municipal corporations in Telangana, urban centres, the health department has made it mandatory for the beneficiaries to book a slot in the CoWIN website, before turning-up for the jab at the vaccine centre.
