Mancherial: As many as 29 persons from Akenapalli village under Tallagurijala gram panchayat in Bellampalli tested positive for Covid-19 after a family attended a marriage in Maharashtra recently. This was discovered when 450 persons were tested during a screening camp on Thursday. The incident went viral on social media platforms and created a flutter in the district on Friday.
According to Medical and Health department officials, a few families were infected by the virus after coming in contact with the family that visited the neighbouring state a few days ago. They were in home isolation and there were no health issues. No outsiders are being allowed to enter the village to break the virus chain, the officials said.
This is the biggest number of infections reported by a village in the district in the recent past. Mancherial district is seeing around 100 positive cases per day in the ongoing second wave of infections of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, district mass media officer Bukka Venkateshwar visited the village and created awareness on the preventative measures. He said that he along with his staff sensitised the residents by visiting all houses. He stated that the screening camp would continue in the village for some more days. Disinfect sodium hypochlorite was being sprayed in the streets as part of th efforts to contain the virus.
