Minister P Ajay Kumar launched covid-19 vaccination in Khammam on Saturday.
Khammam: The head nurse at Khammam District Hospital, Suryapogu Mary was administered the first shot of covid-19 vaccine on Saturday.
Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar along with MP Nama Nageswar Rao has formally launched the vaccination programme at the District Hospital. Speaking on the occasion he said 153 vials of Covishield vaccine developed by Serum Institute of India, Pune reached the district for the covid-19 immunisation in the district.
As many as three lakh health workers and frontline warriors would be administered in the first phase in Telangana. After Hyderabad, Khammam has the highest number of persons registered for the first phase vaccination. About 15, 975 would receive the vaccine in the first phase here.
The vaccination would take place in 36 centres across the district under the supervision of doctors. On the first day as many as 170 persons were given the vaccine at six centres where vaccination, waiting and observation rooms were set up, Collector RV Karnan said.
The world nations soon after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic looked at India apprehensively as to how the country with around 130 crore population would deal with it. But the measures taken by the Central and State governments contained it effectively, MP Nageswar Rao said.
Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqubal, SUDA Chairman B Vijay Kumar, Mayor G Papalal and his deputy B Murali Prasad, Municipal Commissioner Anurag Jayanthi, DM&HO Dr. B Malathi and others were present at the launch of vaccination programme.
In Kothagudem around 120 persons were given covid-19 vaccine shots at four centres. Collector MV Reddy launched the vaccination programme at District Hospital where the hospital superintendent Dr. Sarala received the first vaccine shot in the district.
Emergency wards have been readied to deal with any possible side effects of the vaccine. In the district Covaxin , developed by Bharat Biotech, was being administered, he said. According to health officials two pregnant women of Bhadrachalam denied to take the vaccine.
