Karimnagar: A total of 12 candidates withdrew their nomination papers on Wednesday from the contest for the October 30 Huzurabad Assembly constituency by-election, leaving 30 candidates in the fray. Wednesday was the last day for withdrawal of nominations.
Eatala Jamuna, wife of BJP candidate Eatala Rajender and Congress rebel aspirant Vontela Linga Reddy were among those who withdrew their nominations. A total of 61 candidates filed 92 sets of nominations to contest the Huzurabad by-election. Of these, 19 nominations were rejected during scrutiny held on October 11 as the candidates failed to submit the papers in the prescribed format. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate Taher Kamal Khundiri’s nomination was also rejected.
After scrutiny, 42 candidates including three from recognized national and state political parties, seven registered political parties and 32 Independents were eligible to contest the by-election. After the 12 withdrawals, 30 candidates are in the fray now.
