Hyderabad: Buoyed by the success of an Annapurna Canteen with seating arrangements in Kukatpally, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) decided to set up 32 more such facilities across the city.
Uppal, Malakpet, Khairatabad, Chandanagar and Amberpet are among the 32 locations that have been shortlisted to set up these canteens with work underway at these places at brisk pace.
These new stalls being set up under the Rs 5 Annapurna meal scheme have seating arrangements in addition to roofs. Currently, all the Annapurna canteens (except the facility located in Kukatpally) operate from small stalls with customers standing around it to have food.
According to the GHMC, the feeding programme has served over 7.4 crore meals since 2014. “During the first lockdown period, Annapurna Meals were supplied for free across the city in 373 centres and additional 259 mobile canteens were set up to serve dinner,” GHMC said in a press release.
The Rs 5 meals comprise hygienically cooked rice, sambar, vegetable curry, and a pickle. The meals are served by the GHMC in association with the Hare Krishna Movement Charitable Trust.
