Kothagudem: The police achieved a big breakthrough in their efforts to contain Maoist activities in Bhadradri Kothagudem when 33 militia members and village committee members of the banned CPI (Maoist) party surrendered to the police, Superintendent of Police (SP), Sunil Dutt said on Monday.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the surrendered militia members were from Battinapalli and Kishtarampadu villages of Cherla mandal in the district. Eight are from Sukma district in Chhattisharh, and they were working as militia and village committee members for the Maoist’s Cherla Area Committee secretary Aruna for the past two years, the SP said.
Some of the surrendered militia members were involved in Pedda midisileru road blasting, planting of landmines at Kaliveru village and burning Road roller and JCB at Tippapuram village in the district.
With a desire to live a better life they have decided to surrender. The district police were making constant efforts to persuade the Maoists to quit the arms and join the mainstream life, Dutt said.
He appealed to the Maoist party members and their leaders to surrender with their weapons and join mainstream life. Additional SP (Operations) V Tirupathi, CRPF 141 battalion commandant Hari Om Khare and additional commandant KC Ahlawat were present.
