Karimnagar: A total of 43 medical students of Chalmeda Ananda Rao Institute of Medical Sciences, Karimnagar, tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, with reports of more than 150 students yet to be received.

According to sources, the medicos who participated in various sports and cultural events organized in the college as part of the annual day celebrations recently, developed symptoms of Covid-19. The college management put more than 200 students through the test, with 43 testing positive for the virus. A majority of hostel students were infected by the virus. The management has shut down the institute and sent all the students home. It also postponed exams scheduled during March-June.

Speaking to Telangana Today, District Medical and Health Officer, Dr Juveria confirming the development, said both college and hostel have been closed. Stating that she visited the college, the DMHO said the college management was instructed to take all precautionary measures to check further spread of the virus.

The sudden spurt in Covid case has become a cause of concern for the people of the district and district officials. It may be recalled that the first Covid-19 cases were reported in Karimnagar in March 2020 with the arrival of Indonesian nationals.
