5 organs donated from a brain dead patient in Hyderabad
The doctors at Sunshine Hospitals extended intensive care for 24-hours but due to poor prognosis, the health condition of Reddy did not improve.

Hyderabad: Relatives of a 54-year-old resident from Hyderabad, Y Prabhakar Reddy, who was declared as brain dead by the attending team of neuro-physicians, have donated the organs of the deceased to needy patients under the State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
A resident of RTC cross roads, Jawahar Nagar, Prabhakar Reddy was found unconscious on his bed at 6.30 am on November 8. Relatives including his wife Y Usha Rani, 23-year-old daughter Sai Manisha and 19-year-old son Y Kailash, rushed him to Sunshine Hospitals, Secunderabad for emergency treatment.
The doctors at Sunshine Hospitals extended intensive care for 24-hours but due to poor prognosis, the health condition of Reddy did not improve. On November 9 at 6.30 pm, the hospital neuro-physicians declared him as brain dead due to severe IC (intracranial) bleed that occurs among brain haemorrhage patients.
A series of grief counselling sessions were conducted by organ donation volunteers from Jeevandan and Sunshine Hospitals following which the family members agreed to donate the organs of the deceased under Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
The hospital transplant surgeons retrieved liver, lungs and two corneas and sent them to various centres for transplantation based on the organ donation guidelines of Jeevandan.
