55-year-old woman from Mauritius undergoes surgery in Hyderabad
A 55-year-old woman from Mauritius underwent successful surgery for a rare pancreatic tumour, insulinoma, at KIMS Hyderabad. Doctors used advanced laparoscopic techniques and intraoperative ultrasound to accurately locate and remove the tumour.
Hyderabad: A 55-year-old woman from Mauritius successfully underwent a surgery for a rare pancreatic tumor known as insulinoma at Hyderabad-based Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIM), Kondapur.
Due to her medical condition, the woman was experiencing sudden and severe drops in blood sugar levels. If she did not eat frequently, she would suffer from dizziness and even lose consciousness, doctors said.
“Surgical removal of pancreatic tumors is generally very complex because suturing the pancreas is extremely challenging. We diagnosed her condition as an insulinoma, a rare type of pancreatic tumor. We utilised laparoscopy by making small incisions to remove the tumor from the pancreas,” Dr. C.H. Naveen Kumar, Surgical Gastroenterologist and Robotic Surgeon, KIMS, Kondapur.
Since the tumor was very small, surgeons used intraoperative ultrasound and advanced technologies to accurately locate and remove it.
